Marion R. Rogahn, 93, of Fayette and formerly of Sumner, died Friday, October 6, 2017, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. George Volkert officiating. The committal service will follow at Lutheran Cemetery of Sumner Township with Rev. Gregory C. Rogahn officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 9th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the family for later designation.
Marion Ruth, daughter of Arthur and Bertha (Huebner) Schultz was born January 21, 1924, in rural Sumner, Iowa. She was baptized at home by Rev. Mardorf and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner by Rev. Theodore Klatt. Marion received her education in the Sumner Schools and graduated from Sumner High School. On August 11, 1946, she was united in marriage with Carl Rogahn at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. William Nagler presiding. To this union three children were born, Gregory, Reid and Patrice. Marion worked as a telephone operator for many years prior to working at Overton Chemical and the Sumner Jr. High School, where she retired. Carl died April 7, 1984. Marion remained in her home until moving to Maple Crest Manor in Fayette in the recent years. She was a life long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sumner, where she was very active in the St. Paul’s St. John Ladies Society, and the St. Paul’s Quilters. Along with her husband, Carl she was in a Square Dancing Club. Marion enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, cooking and baking, was an avid reader, but most especially she enjoyed time spent with her family.
Marion is survived by her three children, Rev. Gregory (Krista) Rogahn of Clarence, Reid Rogahn of Sumner, and Patrice (Michael) Smith of Dunkerton; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Kristin) Rogahn, Aaron (Tammie) Rogahn, and Andrew Rogahn, Hans Luther Rogahn, Nicole (Bryan) Northey, Andrew (Latisha) Smith, Katie (Corey) Cerwinske, eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, LeAnn Fritz of West Union; one sister-in-law, Lavon Yungtum of Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carl, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois who died in infancy and Verla Schultz; one brother, Arlin; and one brother-in-law, Willis Fritz.
